Human remains found on trail near Point Woronzof

Police are investigating human remains found in woods near the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail in West Anchorage Monday afternoon.

A hiker or walker found the body to the north of the Coastal Trail and east of Postmark Drive in the Point Woronzof area, said Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Dave Parker. The body was found to the west of Earthquake Park.

Homicide and crime scene investigation detectives arrived at 3:30 p.m. to examine the scene.

A 200-yard section of the trail is closed just east of Postmark Drive, Parker said. It is expected to reopen by Tuesday, Parker said.

As of Monday evening, police said they were not releasing information on the condition of the body or whether it was a man or a woman.
