Whitney Williams of South High was the only top-seeded player to capture a championship Saturday at the Cook Inlet Conference tennis finals at the Alaska Club North.
Williams breezed to the girls singles title by blanking West's Ava Lekander, 6-0, 6-0. She got through her semifinal match without dropping a set too.
Elsewhere, upsets abounded:
• Second-seeded Eddie Lewis of South upset West's top-seeded Reed Lekander to take the boys singles title, 6-4, 6-3.
• Lauren Drake and Adrienne Fox of Dimond took the girls doubles title by outlasting top-seeded Katrina Brown and Grace Weinstein of West, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
• Andrew Kim and Ryan Roys, the No. 2 seed from East, took the boys double title with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over West's John Gutsch and Keenan Hodges, who reached the final by stopping top-seeded Alex Elson and Robert Miller of South in the semifinals.
• Second-seeded Alec Parry and Ellen Rumley of East took the mixed doubles crown with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Service's Aden Moon and Jessica Piraino, who upended top-seeded Anton Clark and Saharra McKee of West in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3.
West and South shared the team championship, with both teams finishing with 17 points.
