Alaska State Troopers recovered the body of a missing Koyuk woman Friday and suspended the search for the man she had been boating across Norton Sound with when the two went missing Sept. 24.
A Bering Air helicopter spotted the body of Debra Kimoktoak, 48, on the beach 30 miles south of Unalakleet and 26 miles east of St. Michael at about 4 p.m. Friday, according to an online Alaska State Troopers dispatch.
Troopers recovered the body from a beach and sent it to the medical examiner in Anchorage for an autopsy.
Troopers suspended their search for David Slwooko, 41, but local efforts are ongoing, according to a report from radio station KNOM.
Kimoktoak and Slwooko left Koyuk on Sept. 24 in a 17-foot aluminum skiff. They planned to boat to Unalakleet, about 80 miles to the south, and carried camping gear and food with them.
