Jafroudi honored

UAA volleyball's Kimya Jafroudi was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her play in two road victories last week.

The 5-foot-7 setter produced 10 digs and a season-high three block assists in a win over Seattle Pacific, also posting 41 assists to go with four kills. Jafroudi's 12 digs and 41 assists were also instrumental in UAA's four-set victory over Montana State Billings.

Jafroudi ranks second in the GNAC with 10.87 assists per set and leads the 10-team league with .46 aces per set.

McGill joins men's roster

The UAA men's basketball team added a new player to its roster, UAA coach Rusty Osborne announced Monday -- Brian McGill transferred from Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Western Oregon to redshirt with the Seawolves.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard played in every game last season for Western Oregon, where he averaged 4.2 points per game in 17.9 minutes per game.

Hildebrand wins Kodiak marathon

Joe Hildebrand won the Run the Rock marathon in Kodiak last weekend, braving wet weather to finish a run through the Kodiak Coast Guard base in 3 hours, 42 minutes, 4 seconds.

Daniel Ubersax finished second in 4:04:32, and Patti Minton won the women's division in 4:18.18.
