First called 'suspicious,' man's death not result of foul play

Anchorage homicide detectives found no sign of foul play in a man's death, initially called "suspicious," late Tuesday at a home off East 68th Avenue, a police sergeant said.

It was 15 minutes to midnight when someone called 911 to report the man "out of control" at a home in the 3400 block of East 67th Avenue, police said in a written statement. Officers arrived to find the 42-year-old man not breathing, and their efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Police did not identify the man Wednesday, nor did thy say how he died or why the case was described as suspicious.

Detectives interviewed several witnesses late into the night, said Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz. It would be up to a prosecutor to file charges in the case, if necessary, Markiewicz said.

"Once the investigation is completed, it will be forwarded to the district attorney for a determination on any criminal charges," he said. "We haven't found evidence of foul play."

Markiewicz said detectives are waiting for a medical examiner's report after an autopsy Wednesday before they say what caused the man's death.
