Alaska high school sports digest: Oct. 23

The Dimond Lynx completed their undefeated run through the Cook Inlet Conference volleyball season Tuesday with a 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-11 home-court victory over Chugiak.

Leah Swiss piled up 20 kills and 18 digs for the Lynx, who finished the CIC regular season with a 16-0 record. Aaliyah Lewis added 21 digs, Sierra Afoa and Tatyana Johnson combined for 16 kills and Janelle Feller handed out 22 assists for Dimond.

Chugiak got 10 digs and 16 assists from McKenzie Kish and nine kills and four blocks from Rachel Gregg.

Dimond will be the top seed in next week's CIC tournament at Service and will play eighth-seeded Service in the first round.

South, the No. 2 seed, will play the loser of Tuesday's match between East and Eagle River, and Chugiak, the No. 3 seed, will play the winner. In the other first-round match, fourth-seeded Bartlett will take on fifth-seeded West.

South 3, Service 0

Holly Morehouse racked up 11 kills and nine blocks to power South to a 25-9. 25-7, 25-10 sweep of Service in a CIC match Tuesday at Service, but the biggest stat of the night was the $6,300 the two teams raised for the American Cancer Society.

The match was part of the annual Spike Out Cancer meeting between the two schools. Players raised more than $6,300 by selling T-shirts and collecting donations, Service coach Bryan Stenhjem said.

Mikalya Sweet added 13 kills and Morgan Hooe tallied 28 assists and three aces for South. Tayleigh Talmadge led the Cougars with five kills.

Bartlett 3, West 0

Bartlett defended its home court on Senior Night with a 25-20, 25-10, 25-19 sweep of West in a CIC volleyball match Tuesday.

Bartlett secured the fourth seed in next week's CIC tournament with the win, and West fell to fifth in the seeding.

East 3, Eagle River 1

Morgan Hill's 19 kills led East on Tuesday in a 25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15 Cook Inlet Conference volleyball win over host Eagle River.

East locked in the CIC tournament's sixth seed with the win, pushing Eagle River into the seventh seed.

Sydney Smith scored 15 kills for the Thunderbirds, with Falua Makhele dishing 17 assists and Lavren Laurvhn contributing 11 digs.

Eagle River's Morgen Wohrle racked a double-double with 13 kills, 13 digs and six aces. Elexa Walker delivered 30 assists to go with four kills and three aces for the Wolves.

Dimond 7, West 0

Katie Wolski of West edged Dimond's Aljibe Reniel by two points Tuesday to post the highest score of the match, but Reniel's Dimond team took the team victory, 7-0.

Wolski fired a 289 to lead all shooters. Reniel followed with 287. The third-highest score came from C team shooter Hannah O'Brien, who shot 283 for Dimond.
