Changes in store for this year's ski swap

The annual ski swap is next weekend at West High, and if you think you know the drill for this long-running event, think again.

Just about everything will be different.

For starters, it's been shortened from two days to one day. The sale is Saturday, Nov. 10, from noon to 5 p.m.

For another, it's not just for skis and snowboards anymore. The consignment sale is for all kinds of winter gear, so the name of the event has been changed. It's now the Winter Gear & Ski Swap.

Another change: for the first time, people can drop off equipment in Girdwood. The drop off is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Alyeska Resort's Race Training Center.

The other drop off is Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West High. If you've registered online, you don't have to stand in line to check in your gear.

Organizers of the event -- a joint fundraiser for the Alyeska Ski Club and the UAA ski team -- are urging sellers to register their equipment online prior to the sale.

If you don't, you'll be charged a $5 fee.
