Detectives seek more witnesses in Platinum Jaxx shooting

Detectives continue to sift through evidence in a fatal early morning shooting last weekend outside a downtown club, announcing Friday that they were seeking more witnesses.

Friends of Said Beshirov told the Daily News that a man shot Beshirov, a 27-year-old Russian kickboxer, as they were about to fight outside Platinum Jaxx at Sixth Avenue and I Street early Sunday morning. The fight started when, as Beshirov's friends later described, they saw someone striking a woman outside the club about 2:45 a.m., when people costumed for Halloween filtered out at closing time.

Police have not made any arrests; nor have they named any suspects or persons of interest in the case. Homicide detectives were still looking Friday for two men dressed as superheroes and the occupants of a white Jeep Cherokee they say were at the scene.

In the search for Beshirov's killer, the detectives have interviewed many in the crowd watching and recording the fight, police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said Friday. Witnesses have turned over videos, and reports in news media helped the investigators get in touch with the occupants of a red Dodge pickup among those leaving shortly after the shooting, Parker said. They're still looking for the driver and any passengers in the white 2002 to 2005 Jeep Cherokee seen driving away, he said.

Parker said two men dressed as Marvel Comics characters -- one in an Iron Man costume, the other as the Incredible Hulk -- can be seen in video collected from either witness videos or surveillance cameras. The detectives hope to talk to them as well, Parker said.

"There was a huge melee out there. I don't know if they were involved in it," he said. "They're not in any trouble. We need to talk to them. They're just witnesses at this point."

Parker said he didn't know if the detectives had identified a suspect.

"If they have a name or person of interest, they have not released that," he said.

The investigation also included analyzing the video frame by frame, an autopsy that would show bullet trajectory, and work at the crime lab to identify what type of firearm was used, Parker said. The police spokesman said he didn't know if investigators recovered a gun, shell casings or a bullet that struck Beshirov.

Police ask that anyone with additional information on the shooting call 786-8900.
