Concussions prompt retirement for UAA's Pickering

Concussions have prompted UAA junior forward Andrew Pickering to retire from the sport at 23, UAA revealed today.

"Andrew has sustained two concussions in the last two months and has decided to concentrate on his health and studies,'' said UAA coach Dave Shyiak in a press release from the school "It is unfortunate for Andrew and the Seawolf program as he has worked hard in the classrrom and to get his body ready for this season.''

Pickering had yet to play this season and played just 14 games, with one goal, in his first two seasons.

Concussions are serious matters, and this sounds like Pickering has made a smart decision. Best of luck to him.
