Charles Krauthammer’s suggestion (“Republicans need to make only a single policy change,” Nov. 9) that Marco Rubio could win the Hispanic vote in 2016 merely by advocating a policy of amnesty for illegal immigrants is offensive and an affront to the entire Hispanic community. Hispanics, like the rest of us, are not single-issue voters who can be swayed simply by the presence of a brown-skinned figurehead. Instead, they are homeowners, workers and families seeking political representatives who will advocate for the common good of the communities in which they live.
Krauthammer’s premise is intellectually insulting at best and racist at worst, placing him firmly with that part of the rear guard that is unable to adjust to the country’s changing social and cultural demographics.
