Marya Pillifant was promoted to the position of vice president at Benchmark Construction. The promotion follows four successful years as project manager for both the company's commercial and residential divisions. She was the 2011 recipient of Construction Woman of the Year from the National Association of Women in Construction. Her field-acquired knowledge of the construction business comes from her years as a journeyman carpenter.

Credit Union 1 has announced that Brooke Johnson has been promoted to the position of branch manager at the DeBarr Branch. Johnson has been with the credit union for two years. During this time, she has worked as a staff development trainer and as assistant branch manager. Prior to coming to CU1, she worked for several years in branch management and operations at other credit unions. In her new role, Johnson will be responsible for the daily operations of CU1's DeBarr Branch and oversee the branch's standards for quality.


Joseph Fong was recently named administrator of Providence Seward Medical & Care Center. Fong, interim administrator at hospital since July, will now serve in the role on a permanent basis. Fong will begin his new role on Dec. 2. As administrator, he will be responsible for all aspects of hospital, clinic and long-term care operations. He is looking forward to improving clinic operations, working with the Seward Health Advisory Council to ensure responsiveness to community needs and making the most of the physicians' clinical expertise. Prior to joining Providence Seward, Fong served as program development director at Providence Alaska Medical Center.


Sean McCallister, administrator at Providence Valdez Medical Center, has accepted the new role of critical access hospital operations administrator for Providence Health & Services Alaska. McCallister will oversee PH&SA operations in Cordova, Kodiak, Seward and Valdez, including critical access hospitals, associated clinics, long-term care facilities and behavioral health services. McCallister has served as hospital administrator in Valdez since 2008, responsible for operations at the hospital, long-term care center and behavioral health services. In that role, he worked to raise the overall health of the community and expand key services.

R&M Consultants has expanded service offerings to include hydrology and hydraulics services with the addition of Hans Arnett to its Anchorage office team. R&M now offers a full spectrum of hydrology and hydraulics services in support of surface transportation, airport engineering, site development and industrial projects. Arnett Hans has more than 20 years of hydrologic and hydraulic experience in Alaska. His work has included hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, stream bed and bridge scour estimation and erosion and bank mitigation studies.


The Anchorage Economic Development Corp. recently promoted Jon Bittner to vice president and hired Valerie Lindstam as communications director. In his new position at AEDC, Bittner will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the organization as well as developing new projects and initiatives that will drive the organization forward. Bittner has been bolstering AEDC's efforts to provide resources to businesses in Anchorage and those interested in relocating to or expanding in the city. Prior to joining AEDC, Lindstam was an account executive at MSI Communications. While there, Lindstam provided account service and support for clients in the transportation, energy and tourism industries.

Christopher Stevens, Ph.D, recently joined SRK Consulting Inc. He graduated from St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology, and from University of Calgary, Canada, with an Master of Science degree in geography, and a Ph.D in geology and geophysics. He has seven years of experience working in the Arctic on permafrost-related projects. He has investigated permafrost on a local and regional scale. Christine McCabe joined the company as a recent graduate in geological engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She has experience as a physical science technician in the mining compliance department with BLM, Fairbanks, a research technician at UAF and a laboratory technician at SGS Environmental.
