Police search for small red sedan seen at Tuesday shooting

The occupants of a small red sedan witnesses saw leaving the scene of a shooting in Anchorage's university district Tuesday are wanted for questioning by detectives, police say.

Someone shot Charles Sherrill Jr., 39, in the leg about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday on 42nd Avenue near Dale Street, police said. He remains in critical condition Thursday, according to Providence Alaska Medical Center.

In a written statement, police said detectives are trying to identify the driver and any passengers of a small red sedan that multiple witnesses saw driving away from the area.

"The occupant(s) of the sedan may have been involved in the assault or may have been the area for other reasons and may simply be witnesses to the assault," the statements says.

Either way, detectives are looking for them. Police ask that anyone with information about the vehicle call them at 786-8900.
