Wine of the week: 2011 Montes Twins

I have tasted so many great wines from Aurelio Montes that I pretty much go for anything he puts his name on. A recent endeavor is the Montes Twins, a 50/50 blend of malbec and cabernet from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. The nose takes a bit of air to come around, but there's wood and black fruit in it. The mouth simply rocks: big black fruit, sweet and jammy, but no sugar. Fleshiness abounds, rolling into wood and firming up with tannin. For the money, the 2011 Montes Twins has plenty of horsepower. Serve it up with rich entrées of meat and comfort food. Costs about $17.
