Alaska director rejoins American Lung Association

Marge Stoneking assumed the role of Director, ALA in Alaska on October 22. Her nine-year history with the American Lung Association (1999-2008), working across the spectrum of air quality, asthma, lung health, tobacco programs, advocacy, fundraising and administration, will be a tremendous asset to the organization. She brings senior level experience with nonprofit management, public health promotion and advocacy. Ms. Stoneking left the organization in 2008 after a multi-state regional merger. She is pleased to be back with the now American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific, a seven-state regional organization, at the helm of Alaska operations.

"We learned that instate leadership is critical to maintaining local presence and serving Alaskans, and we're delighted to have Marge's leadership back with the organization," said regional CEO Renee Klein.

Ms. Stoneking is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), trained and experienced in cultivating and stewarding individual and corporate donor relationships as well as grant writing and management. She is well versed in coalition work and community organizing and was centrally involved in the passage of the Anchorage Clean Indoor Air Law, tobacco tax increases in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Borough, defense of the Anchorage I/M Carbon Monoxide Monitoring Program, defeat of a coal-fired power plant in MatSu, defense of Clean Indoor Air Law in Juneau, development and passage of the Alaska Self-Carry Medication Law, and the annual appropriation of Master Settlement dollars to fund a comprehensive tobacco control program in Alaska. She is experienced in working with policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels.

Most recently, from 2009-2012, Marge served as CEO of Girl Scouts of Alaska, serving as the first CEO after the merger of two in-state Girl Scout councils.
