Hot picks: Festivus, Shootout, flyball

Anti-holiday

Not given to the holiday spirit? Then head to Koot's as they celebrate the holiday made famous by "Seinfeld." The "Festivus for the rest of us" includes the faux-traditional feats of strength and airing of grievances, plus the addition of a tiny toga contest. Local band City in Ashes also performs, 9 p.m., Saturday, $5 (21 and older). Visit koots.com for info.

More than fetch

While some of the best basketball players compete in this year's Shootout, catch some canine athletes in the Great Alaska Barkout Flyball Tourneys. Teams of four dogs compete head-to-head, jumping hurdles and catching a ball from a spring-loaded box. The tournament takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Alyeska Canine Trainers (549 W. International Airport Road), free. Visit flyballdogs.com/alaska for info.

Hoop dreams

The men's bracket of the 35th installment of the Great Alaska Shootout winds its way to the final two teams this weekend at Sullivan Arena, with the semifinal games taking place Friday and the championship scheduled for Saturday. Tickets are $20-$170. Visit goseawolves.com for the full schedule of games. Dish Network and Direct TV subscribers can watch the games on CBS Sports Network.
