Sometimes The Blog is tooling around the series of tubes and stumbles upon useful information (or what he imagines is useful info -- feel free to mutter something disparaging).
In any event, can't even remember what prompted the click that led to this: Former Alaska Aces winger Matt Stefanision is playing AAA senior hockey for the Bentley Generals in Alberta; the Generals plays in the Chinook Hockey League and next year are hosting the Allan Cup, the Canadian championship of senior hockey.
Anyhow, Stef, who played for the Aces in 2008-09 and 2009-10, and bagged 22 goals in 50 games, owns five goals in five games for the Generals. Last season, he played for Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, posting 14-18--32 totals and 135 penalty minutes in just 19 games.
Stumbled across some other Alaska connections in the Chinook Hockey League too. Former UAA jack-of-all-trades Curtis Leinweber played three games for the Sylvan Lake Admirals and had one goal -- he's headed over the Scotland to play for the Edinburgh Capitals of the EIHL. Also on Sylvan Lake is former UAF forward Brandon Knelsen and former UAA forward Tyler Moir.
For UAF forward Doug Auchenberg (one season, 2002-03) plays for the Stony Plain Eagles, and, no, The Blog has no idea why he remembers a guy who played at UAF for a single season a decade ago (probably means that info is clogging a brain cell The Blog could use for something more useful, like, say remembering the middle initial of the two Kevin Bakers in the ECHL so he can remember which one is the former MVP).
