Letter: New ideas enliven politics

Re: "Republicans, your opportunity is at hand" (Compass, Nov. 13).

I find it refreshing to see that there is still intelligent life on Planet Earth.

Allow me to rephrase one of Ms. Sullivan's statements.

By tacking toward the center, the Republican Party could successfully adopt the winning moderate strategy of Dwight Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956. Other moderate and successful Republicans include Sen./Gov. Nelson Rockefeller of New York, Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and Sen. Everett Dirksen of Illinois. You get the picture.

Politics will be intellectually exciting now, with new people with new ideas.
