Octogenarian hunter missing on Admiralty Island

An elderly hunter is missing on Admiralty Island in Southeast Alaska, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Angoon resident Frank Sharp, 80, and two family members were hunting for deer near Angoon on Friday, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. The hunters split up and had planned to meet at a designated time, but Sharp didn't show up by nightfall, Peters said. He was reported missing early Saturday, she said.

Two search dogs and a total of 13 people -- including troopers, volunteers and two hunters -- took boats to get to the area Saturday and spent the day looking for Sharp, Peters said. As of 6 p.m. Saturday, he had not been found, she said.

The searchers planned to pick up their efforts again Sunday, Peters said.
