Texas State victorious in 7th-place game

Texas State's Corey Stern and Matt Staff turned in stellar shooting performances Saturday at Sullivan Arena, leading the Bobcats to an 81-69 win over UC Riverside in the seventh-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Stern scored a game-high 17 points on 5 of 7 shooting, and Staff drilled all but one of his seven attempts to finish with 16 points.

The Bobcats (3-3) made 11 of their first 12 shots on their way to a 47-35 halftime lead. Reid Koenen tossed in 12 points for Texas State, and Vonn Jones added 10.

Chris Harriel led UC Riverside (1-6) with 16 points, Dayton Boddie made all seven of his free throws to finish with 12 points, and David Guinn chipped in 10 points and two blocks.
