Alaska high school sports digest for Nov. 30

PREP BOYS HOCKEY

Dimond 14, Kenai 0

Two players scored hat tricks Friday for the defending state champion Dimond boys hockey team, and the Lynx blew out Kenai 14-0 in a nonconference game at McDonald Center.

The Lynx (11-0), who have won 38 straight games, got hat tricks from Lane Bauer and Brandon Sakumoto. Ben Heaffer added a pair of goals, and Dimond goalie Aaron Bigelow stopped six shots in the shutout. Josh Larson scored the game's first goal and dished a pair of assists.

Dimond's last loss came against Service in a state tournament semifinal match up in 2011.

Service 1, Soldotna 0

Service and Soldotna played through two scoreless periods Friday at Ben Boeke Arena and nearly made it to overtime, before the Cougars scored to earn a 1-0 nonconference boys hockey win.

Howard Yawitt notched the game-winner on a power play with 2:30 remaining, getting assists from Leo Karcz and Andrew Cummings.

Service goalie Takoda Castillo stopped 15 shots in the shutout, and the Cougars unleashed 21 shots.

PREP GIRLS HOCKEY

Fairbanks wins

The Fairbanks girls hockey team picked up its second straight win over Service-East on Friday, winning 1-0 on a second-period goal from Courtney Cox at Ben Boeke Arena.

The Arctic Bears, who also beat Service-East on Thursday, were outshot 14-12, with goalie Sabrina Nichols earning a shutout. Cox's game-winner came with 4:30 left in the second period.
