Dimond, Aljibe claim CIC championships
Dimond's Reniel Aljibe scored 290 out of a possible 300 Saturday to lead the Lynx to the Cook Inlet Conference riflery title at West High.
"He pretty much won everything this year," Dimond coach John Snead said. "He was kind of the star of the riflery world this year."
The team victory capped an undefeated season for the Lynx, who have been undefeated in regular-season matches for four straight seasons.
Aljibe and Nathan Hussong both hit 16 bull's-eyes for Dimond, with Hussong finishing second with a 289. Chelsey Devon fired a 282 and Maddy Friedl shot a 281 to help Dimond claim a 12-point win over West.
The Eagles, last season's CIC tournament champion, were led by Katie Wolski's 287. Lyndea Kelleher (285), Aman LaChapelle (284) and Erin Brayfield (274) completed the scoring.
Aljibe and Hussong were the meet's top two medalists, adding to their totals in the medalist round to finish at 386.8 and 385, respectively.

BOYS PREP HOCKEY
East 4, Chugiak 2
Sam Stinson's hat trick sparked East's 4-2 victory over Chugiak in a Cook Inlet Conference hockey game Saturday at Ben Boeke Ice Arena.
Stinson scored two goals in the first period and completed his three-goal night in the second period. He also assisted on his team's only other goal, a short-handed strike by Craig Hayes.
Chugiak countered with William Casey's second-period goal and Ted Walters' third-period goal.
Goaltender Jack Straub stopped 13 shots for the Mustangs, and Kris Oldham turned back 23 for East.
West 7, Kenai 1
Garen Teders scored a short-handed goal and dished two assists and three teammates each furnished one goal and one assist Saturday, when West beat Kenai 7-1 in a nonconference boys hockey game at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.
Steven Gustafson, James Batman and Ryder Schwann each generated one goal and one helper for the Eagles. Paul Norris, Alex Bardsley and Ted Kelly also scored goals for West, and Joe Chekan stopped 15 shots.
T.J. Wagoner scored for the Kardinals, who received 43 saves from Justin Alvey.
Dimond 9, Soldotna 1
Lane Bauer and Aidan Tielborg delivered hat tricks Saturday afternoon at Ben Boeke Arena to propel unbeaten and defending state champion Dimond to a 9-1 nonconference boys hockey victory over Soldotna.
Bauer also had an assist, Dawson Glover generated two goals, Drake Glover contributed three helpers and Kenny Hausinger added a goal. Dimond (12-0) outshot Soldotna 36-11.
Nick Wrobel scored for Soldotna.
GIRLS PREP HOCKEY
Arctic Bears win
Lisa Laiti scored two goals and assisted on another Saturday afternoon to spearhead the Arctic Bears of Fairbanks to a 5-1 win over Chugiak-Eagle River in a nonconference girls hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena.
The Arctic Bears also received goals from Peyton Lake, Janelle Pascoe and Jade Meier. Molly Brooks made 11 saves.
Holly Linder scored Chugiak-Eagle River's only goal on a third-period power play. Arika Mercer stopped 27 shots.
Dimond-West wins
Allye Brodie's goal with two seconds left in overtime carried Dimond-West to a 4-3 Cook Inlet Conference victory over South-Bartlett in a girls hockey game Saturday at Ben Boeke.
South-Bartlett led 2-1 going into the third period, but goals from Miryea Herman and Tarah Clayton propelled Dimond-West to a 3-2 lead, with Clayton's goal coming with 1:58 left in regulation.
Alahna Stivers forced the extra period with her second goal of the game, tying things up with 1:19 remaining.
The winners fired nine shots in overtime; the losers managed two.
Tami Suenram's goal and two assists led Dimond-West, which also got eight saves from Julie McDonald.
South-Bartlett got 19 saves from Zoe Scherer and a second-period goal from Morgan Newhouse.
PREP WRESTLING
Wasilla takes mat title
The Wasilla Warriors wrestling team nailed down the team championship while South and Service each boasted a meet-high four individual champions Saturday at the North-South Duals in Soldotna.
Wasilla, which had two individual champions, scored 210 points in the 12-team meet to beat South, which was second with 192.
The Wolverines produced winners at 98 pounds (Greg Shack), 113 (Gavin Alvarado), 138 (Kraig Hammond) and 195 (Dalton Sauder). Service had champs at 120 (Joshua Fetko), 126 (Alexander Nanez), 132 (John Pounds) and 152 (Tyler Thammavongsa).
