Tunes from the 'Pines'
Portions of Ottorino Respighi's "Pines of Rome" will be featured in the upcoming performance by the Anchorage Youth Symphony, conducted by William Waag, along with Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring," Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony and more. In addition to the AYS, the program will also include music played by the Anchorage Youth Philharmonic. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7 in Atwood Concert Hall. Tickets are available at centertix.net.
Last call for 'Spamalot'
UAA's production of the musical "Spamalot" wraps up with performances at 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8, and 3 p.m. on Dec. 9 in the Fine Arts Building's Mainstage theater. The spirited production of Monty Python's popular comic romp features a big cast and lots of (intentional) guffaws. Shows have been selling out, but tickets may still be available at uaatix.com.
Caroling in concert
The Alaska Chamber Singers will present three programs of holiday music this year, at 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3900 Wisconsin St.; 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at St. Patrick's Church, 2111 Muldoon Rd.; and 4 p.m. Dec. 9 at St. Andrew's Church, 16300 Domain Lane in Eagle River. The program will include Eric Whitacre's luscious "little tree" and a set of Ukrainian carols accomplished by pianist Juliana Osinchuk. There will also be plenty of familiar fare, like "Away in a Manger" and "O Holy Night." Tickets are available at centertix.net.
