Ethan Cox scores! (And so do some other Alaska connections)

The long drought is over for our man Ethan Cox, the former Alaska Aces center and good dude.

Cox, who currently draws his paycheck from the ECHL's Reading Royals, went his first 23 games of the season without a goal -- and counting five playoff games without a marker last spring, that ran his drought to 28 games.

No mas. Cox scored the first goal of the game tonight in Reading's 3-1 win at Elmira. Consider the floodgates open. After all, Cox scored 16 goals last season in 61 combined games for Alaska and Reading, and popped 15 in 56 games as a rookie for the Aces in 2010-11, when he helped them to the Kelly Cup.

Some other Alaska connections scored Saturday too:

--In the ECHL, former Aces center Chris Langkow (6-8--14 in 22 games) two goals for South Carolina in a 6-5 shootout win over visiting Trenton. Also scoring for the Stingrays was Hunter Bishop of Fairbanks (10-10--20 in 23 games), who leads the club in goals and is tied for the lead in points.

--Minnesota-Duluth sophomore winger Zoe Hickel of Anchorage notched her team-leading eighth goal -- she's 8-5--13 in 16 games to lead the Bulldogs in scoring -- in a 2-2 tie with Boston University.

--Wisconsin senior winger Alev Kelter of Eagle River racked the game winner in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over North Dakota. She owns 11-2--13 totals in 19 games and is second among Badgers in goals.
