A driver in a head-on collision that injured him and two other people near Girdwood late Tuesday was drunk, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Ralph Edward Adams, a 60-year-old Anchor Point resident, was driving south in a Dodge pickup that slammed into a Chevrolet pickup heading north about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of the Seward and Alyeska highways, troopers said in a written statement posted online Wednesday.
The crash sent Adams and two passengers to a hospital and totaled both pickups, troopers said. It was unclear Wednesday in which pickup the passenges rode or whether the Chevy's driver, 36-year-old Seward resident Christopher Shilling, was also hurt, troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said.
Adams, who was found to be intoxicated, remained hospitalized Wednesday, troopers said. Drunken driving charges for Adams are pending as he continues to receive medical treatment, troopers said.
