Utah's Schultz suspended one game for hit on Aces winger Smith

The ECHL has suspended Utah's Ian Schultz for one game -- he'll sit out tonight's series finale against visiting Alaska -- for his hit that knocked Aces rookie winger Jarred Smith out of Alaska's 5-4 win in Utah on Friday night.

Schultz in the game was issued a major penalty for charging and a game misconduct. The incident occurred early in the second period and Smith was unable to return to the game, shortening an already threadbare Aces lineup.

Should Smith be unable to play tonight -- still awaiting word on that -- he would become the 16th Aces player to miss at least one game this season due to injury. UPDATE: Aces broadcaster Josh Bogorad says Smith will not play, but is feeling decent. According to Bogorad, Aces coach Rob Murray said if the club had a team doctor there who could clear Smith, he likely would play. But since the club is on the road, and it's a head injury, no sense taking a chance. Also, Nate Thompson will sit out again injured. Garry Nunn, who didn't finish the game because of flu-like symptoms, will be in the lineup.

Through 27 games, Aces players have missed a combined 179 games to injuries.
