Anchorage Home Builders Association executive officer to retire

ANCHORAGE HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION EXECTIVE OFFICER RETIRES

ANCHORAGE – Vicki Portwood, Executive Officer at Anchorage Home Builders Association (AHBA), is retiring effective December 31, 2012. Portwood has served as the executive officer for the AHBA and the Alaska State Home Builders Association (ASHBA) for over 15 years.

"Under Vicki Portwood’s leadership AHBA and ASHBA have grown their membership and expanded their   outreach, so we are saddened to see her leave us,” said Paul Michelsohn Jr., owner of Michelsohn & Daughter Construction Inc. “Portwood led both associations with a professional approach, but yet brought a sense of humor when the occasion arose.”

In her position, Portwood oversaw the development AHBA’s philanthropic Care Endowment. The Care    Endowment has raised over $700,000 in funds that have been returned to the community in the form of scholarship funds, school supplies and gifts for Anchorage students.

“Vicki has built relationships around the state and these relationships have benefited our members and improved our industry’s reputation,” Claiborne Porter, owner of NCP Design/Build LTD and ASHBA founder.

Portwood supported efforts this year to secure the passage of a third-party plan review ordinance, allowing builders to use plan reviews outside of the Municipal Building Services Department. This effort will expedite the permitting process for builders and remodelers.

"We have greatly appreciated Vicki's efforts over the last 16 years," said Tyler Loken, AHBA President and owner of Loken Construction.  "She has been an outstanding leader dedicated to advancing the building community statewide. We wish her well in her retirement.”

Nikki Giordano, currently AHBA Membership Coordinator, has been named the new Executive Director.
