Anvik man recovering in Anchorage hospital after being shot

A 19-year-old man is recovering at an Anchorage hospital after being shot over the weekend in the village of Grayling, Alaska State Troopers report. Details about what happened are murky, troopers said.

Troopers said the man, Chaz Walker, from Anvik, was shot early Saturday morning inside a residence in the Yukon River village. At least two other adults and their two small children were in the residence at the time of the shooting, troopers said in a written statement.

"While receiving care at the Grayling clinic, Walker told troopers he did not know what had happened to him and that he woke up after being shot," troopers reported. The two adults in the house said they didn't know what happened, either.

Walker was taken to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition, troopers report.

"Alcohol was a significant contributing factor in this incident," troopers said.
