Big games from Alysha Devine and Kyla Dinkel powered the Wasilla girls to victory, but the Wasilla boys couldn't keep up with a hot-shooting team from New York Friday at the Doc Larson Roundball Classic in Wasilla.

The girls breezed to a 71-34 rout of Century High of Hillsboro, Ore., while the boys suffered a 59-40 loss to Xaverian High of Brooklyn.

Devine furnished 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Dinkle pitched in 20 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Warriors, who hit 46 percent of their shots. Wasilla raced to a 24-6 lead in the first quarter and led 37-14 at the half.

Xaverian buried 59.6 percent of its shots, a performance that included an 11-of-15 shooting night for George Lambert, who hit five of seven from 3-point range on his way to 27 points. The New Yorkers registered assists on 17 of their 19 field goals, with Lamel Faison handing out 10 assists to go with 10 points.

Wasilla, which managed to hit just 28.3 percent of its shots, was led by Dane Kuiper's 22 points.

In other games Friday:

• The Siegel Stars crashed the boards to crush the Bartlett boys 88-65.

Ryan Jones grabbed 10 rebounds to help the team from Murfreesboro, Tenn., to a 42-29 rebounding advantage, getting 10 boards from Ryan Jones and five of its 18 offensive boards from Robert Brandon. Brandon added 28 points and Jones 26, while Devin Light topped Bartlett with 22 points.

• Three players scored in double figures and Antonio Bush hauled down 10 rebounds in Colony's 86-48 romp over the Chugiak boys.

Damien Fulp scored 14 points, Hunter Eisenhower netted 13 and Joe Gray had 12 for the Knights, who outrebounded Chugiak 40-29. Payton Fullmer's 21 points paced Chugiak.

• Hannah Mattson racked up 10 steals, nine rebounds and eight points in West Valley's 44-25 triumph over the Chugiak girls. Caitlyn Bryce added eight points and eight rebounds for the Wolfpack.

The game wasn't pretty -- the teams combined for 61 turnovers, 37 by Chugiak, and both teams shot poorly. West Valley made 25.4 percent of its shots and Chugiak made 19.5 percent.

The round-robin tournament concludes Saturday with five games at Wasilla High -- Chugiak-Bartlett boys at 11:45 a.m, Chugiak-Century girls at 1:30 p.m, Colony-Xaverian boys at 3:15, West Valley-Wasilla girls at 5 p.m. and Siegel-Wasilla boys at 6:45 p.m.

Capital City Classic

East High got a win from its boys team and a loss from its girls team and Anchorage Christian produced a pair of high scorers Friday at the Capital City Classic basketball tournament in Juneau.

Sarah Geagel pumped in 25 points and Dallas Dickerson poured in 22 to lead the ACS girls past Juneau 67-52. The Lions hit 21 of 26 of their free throws, getting a combined 16-of-19 effort from Geageland Dickerson.

Jarred Laws scored nine of his game-high 17 points in the first quarter for the East boys, who cruised past Sitka 67-34. Matthew Hardwick added 12 points and Desmond Johnson contribued 10 for the T-birds, who led 17-5 after one quarter and 31-14 at the half.

Taria Page piled up 25 points in a losing cause for the East girls, who suffered a 66-59 setback to Sitka. East hurt itself with fouls -- Sitka shot 49 free throws, sinking 31 of them.

Sid Riggs topped Sitka with 24 points and was 11 of 13 from the line; Megan Reid added 15 and was 9 of 11 from the line.

In the day's final game, the Juneau boys held off West Valley 65-64. Down 18-12 after one quarter, the Crimson Bears used a 26-17 second quarter to nab a 38-35 halftime lead, getting nine of Gary Speck's 19 points in the pivotal quarter.

Friday's action also included a variety of shooting contests. Laws won two of the boys competitions -- free throws and 3-point shooting -- while Juneau's Bruce Jones won the slam dunk contest. For the girls, Esra Siddeek of Juneay won the 3-point contest and Kalene Koeling of Sitka topped the free throw competition.

Cougars win again

The Service Cougars ran their record to 5-0 Friday, riding Adam Klie's 24 points to a 61-48 boys basketball win over Westview High of Beaverton, Ore.

The win puts Service in the championship gae of the Sam Barlow Trail tournament in Gresham, Ore.

Marques Robinson added 18 points and Reece Robinson had 10 for the Cougars, who held Westview's leading scorer, Dyrall Goods, to five points, 15 below his average.

Win, loss for Lynx, Eagles

The Dimond and West girls basketball teams each won a game and lost a game Friday at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.

Siera Afoa's double-double led Dimond to a 54-34 romp over the Coronado Cougars of Henderson, Nev. Afoa racked up 11 points and 10 rebounds, Ione Fischer posted 13 points and seven assists and Aminata Cole chipped in 15 points for Dimond.

In their other game, the Lynx shot an ice-cold 23 percent from the field and gave away the ball 20 times in a 54-34 loss to the Highland Hawks of Gilbert, Ariz. Only five Dimond players scored, with Cole leading the way with eight points.

West's day included a 65-40 win over Western High of Sparks, Nev., and a 55-38 loss to Woodenville High of Irvine, Calif. CeCeCockerham tossed in 14 points and Chanel Bookert contributed 12 in the West victory.
