Letter: Conquer fear of guns

Educating our citizens about guns would go a long way toward reducing homicides and mass murders. Facing the issue of what to do about guns won't be solved with gun control laws. That will only drive the issue underground and create a new market for unlawful guns sold illegally, and at a disgustingly high profit, which would make the market grow fast and wide. However, consider, the results of offering elective courses in high schools, and colleges on guns, their tactical use, nomenclature, and the individual's legal responsibilities when it comes to owning a gun. This would get the gun problem out in the open and let our citizens see what we are dealing with when it comes to guns. Perhaps a population that is educated about firearms could find a solution that hasn't been thought of yet. Gun control has never worked, and it never will work. The crime rate on homicides, robberies, muggings, et al, have never gone down in those cities or states that have gun control laws. I know one thing for sure, and that is an armed society is truly a friendly society. Gun control is the wrong solution because the problem isn't guns, it's people. If we eliminate guns, the problem still exists, and that is crazies, and bad people will always get guns. Try solving that problem.
