Alaska high school boys basketball digest: Jan. 3

South took command early against Skyview on Thursday in the opening round of the ACS Lime Solar/Pepsi Invitational boys basketball tournament, racing to a 26-point halftime lead and dispatching Skyview, 73-31.

Louis Page delivered a game-high 17 points and 12 different Wolverines scored points. Zach Lujan, David Alston and Wade Ellis each contributed nine points.

Skyview's Jacob Carlson and Sam Deatherage each each scored six points.

ACS 54, Barrow 14

ACS held Barrow scoreless in the first quarter, limited the Whalers to four points in the first half and cruised to a 54-14 Invitational victory.

Gus Simmers led the Lions with 18 points, Calvin Hoffman added 10 and Jalen Terry chipped in nine.

Taylor Masterson led Barrow with five points.

Sitka 70, Valdez 47

Brian Way drained three field goals in each period and finished with a game-high 24 points in Sitka's 70-47 Invitational win over Valdez.

Sitka outscored Valdez 17-9 in the first quarter and controlled action throughout. Quentin White added 12 points for the Wolves.

Caj Roher led Valdez with 12 points, Levi Auble chipped in 11 and Jacob Perez hit for 10.

Bethel 58, Glennallen 33

Ito Naneng and Carlie Romer combined to drain seven 3-pointers, including four in the fourth quarter, and lead Bethel to a 58-33 Invitational win over Glennallen.

Naneng made four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points and Romer added three 3-pointers among his 15 points. Bethel led 34-20 after three quarters, then really blew the game open with a 24-point fourth quarter.

Brady Parmenter topped Glennallen with 10 points.

Boys basketball

West tops Juneau

West's I.K. Obligde racked a double-double Thursday and the Eagles rolled to a 76-46 nonconference boys basketball win over Juneau at the Joe Floyd Tournament in Kodiak.

Christian Nidoy chipped in 14 points for the Eagles, with Deandre Wilson adding 11 points and seven assists. Joe Riley was the fourth West player in double figures, scoring 10 points.

West (3-1) will face Kodiak on Friday.

Grace tops Delta

Hans Karlberg hit three 3-pointers and drained all nine of his free throws Thursday to spark Grace Christian to a 64-51 boys basketball victory over Delta Junction.

Karlberg scored a game-high 24 points and Luke Offord added 13 for the Grizzlies.

Daniel Zhdarov the Huskies with 17 points.
