Alaska high school girls basketball digest: Jan. 3

Dallas Dickerson's game-high 19 points paced 10 ACS scorers Thursday night, when the Lions opened their ACS Lime Solar/Pepsi Invitational girls basketball tournament with a 66-37 victory over South.

Dickerson racked 17 of her points in the first half, when ACS raced to a 38-21 cushion. Sarah Geagel added 12 points for ACS and Sam Busse contributed 10.

Sierra Mains led the Wolverines with 16 points and Taylor Murray added nine.

Hutchison 55, Bethel 45

Hutchison used a dominating third quarter sparked by Mimi Wood and Vanessa Hasting to open the Invitational with a 55-45 victory over Bethel.

Wood racked 10 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter and Hasting chipped in six of her 11 points in the quarter -- Hutchison outscored Bethel 20-6 in that eight-minute span to take a 47-30 lead.

Alyson Yingling added 10 points for the Hawks.

Riana Joseph paced Bethel with 13 points.

Barrow 48, Glennallen 21

Lynette Hepa scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the first half to lift the Barrow girls to a 48-21 opening-round victory in the Invitational.

Hepa was one of three Barrow girls to reach double figures in points -- Dana Chrestman notched 11 and Hilary Lowery netted 10.

Kendall Maslen led Glennallen with six points.

Valdez 63, Skyview 29

Alex Derifield erupted for 27 points, hitting five 3-pointers and spearheading Valdez's girls to a 63-29 Invitational win over Skyview.

Derifield enjoyed ample help. Katie Merioles, Shilo Nease and Marian Wamsley each chipped in eight points.

Camila O'Toole led Skyview with six points.

Delta tops Grace

Jess Reiter knocked down five 3-pointers Thursday in a 21-point performance that led Delta Junction's 55-30 girls basketball victory over Grace Christian.

Diana Linnik added 17 points for the Huskies.

Madison Lash led Grace with 13 points.
