Tsunami warning canceled after strong SE quake

Update, 2 a.m.: The tsunami warning for southeast Alaska has been canceled.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the Southeast Alaska coast after a 7.5 earthquake hit offshore late Friday night.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for an area stretching from the north tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia to Cape Fairweather, 80 miles southeast of Yakutat.

A 7.5 earthquake hit offshore at 11:58 p.m., 60 miles west of Craig and 212 miles south of Juneau, the USGS reported.

A tsunami advisory issued earlier for areas to the north and west beyond the panhandle, including Cordova and Homer, has been canceled.
