Letter: Take different look at the gun issue

I think we may be looking at the matter of “gun control” in the wrong way. What counts, I think, is not so much “what” we should do, but how we “approach” the issue. That is, if we can find a universally agreeable way to approach this issue, then that will increase the odds that we can devise a universally acceptable solution. 

For example, I think that most people don’t object so much to allowing responsible, law-abiding citizens to possess guns of any type. What many people are fearful of is that guns frequently fall into the hands of criminals. So why not try to develop legislation specifically designed to help keep guns out of the hands of “criminals,” while still allowing responsible, law-abiding citizens to own whatever guns they please?
