Like a lot of teams in the ECHL since the NHL lockout ended Sunday, the Alaska Aces have lost a lot of players -- counting one departure, two players loaned to AHL teams and four NHLers moving on, the Aces have lost seven players.
But imagine if they lost both their active goaltenders, Gerald Coleman and Mark Guggenberger.
Well, that's basically what happened to the Ontario Reign, who Wednesday night open a three-game set in Anchorage against the Aces. Both Chris Carrozzi and Jean-Francois Berube were summed to the AHL.
So it is that the Reign will apparently use Dustin Carlson in this week's series. According to ECHL transactions, the Reign signed Carlson, who split last season between Ontario (2-1-0, 2.37, .915) and Toledo (2-8-1, 2.59, .883). Imagine the former Ohio State goalie gets the start Wednesday night, and perhaps someone local will be an emergency back-up.
