New Stuyahok man jailed for naked fight with village officers

A New Stuyahok man who fought with village authorities while naked Tuesday night faces charges of assault on a police officer and indecent exposure, among other charges, according to Alaska State Troopers.

A village public safety officer and police officer eventually arrested the man, 25-year-old Demitris Askoak, after Askoak defecated on them, according to a trooper statement posted online Wednesday. Askoak remained in custody in New Stuyahok, a village in Southwest Alaska, troopers said.

According to the trooper statement, the trouble began about 8 p.m. Tuesday:

The village public safety officer was cutting firewood in his yard, for use in a steam bath, when a man came running by yelling for help. The man was being chased by Askoak, who appeared to be drunk. Askoak then tackled the safety officer when the officer asked what was going on. The safety officer fought with Askoak before retreating to his house, where he called New Stuyahok's police officer.

Meanwhile, Askoak had stripped naked and was beating on the safety officer's vehicle parked in his yard. The temperature was about 16 degrees, and village residents were telling him to put his clothes back on. The safety officer and police officer struggled with Askoak while trying to arrest him. Askoak poked the police officer in the eye during the altercation, troopers said.

"During the struggle Askoak defecated while he was thrashing around and got fecal matter on the three of them ... ," the trooper statement says.

The safety officer and police officer eventually gained control of Askoak and jailed him at the village's public safety office. He is charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, harassment and indecent exposure.
