A robber with a gun stole a small amount of money from a Burger King restaurant Friday morning in East Anchorage, according to police.
A Caucasian man wearing a mask and a black, hooded sweatshirt and all-black clothing walked into the Burger King at 700 Northway Drive and demanded money, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. The man brandished a handgun and employees gave him cash, Shell said. Nobody was injured, she said.
A Burger King employee called 911 to report the robbery at about 10:10 a.m., Shell said. Police officers could be seen parked on nearby roads in a perimeter. Officers scoured the area to the west of the restaurant for the suspect, Shell said. Several officers and a police dog searched the nearby Penland Mobile Home Park but they were unable to find the suspect, she said. Police called off the search at about 11:45 a.m., Shell said.
Police ask that anyone with information on the robber call 786-8900.
The robbery comes after back-to-back morning stickups at two other chain restaurants in Anchorage.
An armed man wearing a mask and dark clothing who was initially described as Hispanic stole a small amount of money from a Subway sandwich shop at 6110 Old Seward Highway on Jan. 2, police said. The next morning, police said, a man wearing similar dark clothes robbed a Pizza Hut at 118 E. Sixth Ave.
Shell, the police spokeswoman, said it is unclear if any of the robberies are related.
