Two reach podium for UAA ski team

UAA's nordic ski team made its season debut by landing two skiers on the podium Saturday in the University of Colorado Invitational at Steamboat Springs, Colo.

Marine Dusser of Villar de Lans, France, grabbed second place in the women's 15-kilometer freestyle, and Lukas Ebner of Furtwangen, Germany, placed third in the men's 20-K.

Two Anchorage skiers competing for Lower 48 colleges also cracked the top 10 -- Andrew Dougherty was sixth for the University of Denver and Jessica Yeaton was sixth for Montana State. UAA's Viktor Braennmark was ninth among men.

In alpine competition in Winter Park, Colo., Vanessa Berther was UAA's only skier in the top 10 of a giant slalom race that is part of the Denver Invitational. She finished seventh. Three UAA men failed to complete their runs, including senior All-American Andreas Adde.
