Alaska high school hockey digest for Jan. 18

Eagle River 4, Lathrop 1

A pair of goals from Brett Wood helped Eagle River claim a 4-1 nonconference boys hockey win over Lathrop on Friday at the McDonald Center.

Jesse Johnson and George Platt scored Eagle River's first two goals and Wood's first goal gave the Wolves a 3-0 lead with 10:40 left in the second period.

Logan Parsley cut the lead to 3-1 with Lathrop's only goal with 5:06 left in the second, and Wood tacked on Eagle River's last goal on a third-period power play.

Eagle River goalie Justin Lopez stopped 18 shots, and Lathrop goalie Ian Morey stopped 19.

Soldotna 5, Chugiak 1

Soldotna's Dalton Pearson scored two goals and assisted on another and Cody Harvey stopped 22 of 23 shots to trigger a 5-1 victory over Chugiak in a nonconference game in Soldotna.

Chugiak's lone goal came in the second period when Taylor Garner scored on an assist from Brandon Bartlett. That narrowed Soldotna's lead to 3-1, but the Stars tacked on two more goals in the third period.

Arctic Bears cruise

A hat trick for Courtney Cox and a shutout for Molly Brooks powered the Arctic Bears of Fairbanks to an 8-0 win over Chugiak-Eagle River in nonconference girls hockey action Friday at the McDonald Center.

Courtney Evans contributed two goals and Zahn Thompson tallied three assists for Fairbanks, which outshot Chugiak-Eagle River 30-3.
