Kim Rice Appointed to Alaska DOT&PF Deputy Commissioner

(JUNEAU, Alaska) – Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) Commissioner Pat Kemp announced today the appointment of Kim Rice, P.E. to deputy commissioner.

"I am extremely pleased to announce Kim Rice as the department's deputy commissioner," said Kemp. "Kim has a wealth of knowledge about transportation issues in Alaska and extensive experience in multiple engineering disciplines within the department including bridge design, environmental engineering, right-of-way, preconstruction and construction."

Rice will oversee the divisions of Design and Engineering Services, Program Development, Public Facilities, Design and Construction, and Statewide Maintenance. Her office will be located in Juneau and she will spend time in Anchorage as well.

Rice has been with ADOT&PF since 1977 and previously served as the central region design and construction director. She replaces Kemp, who was recently promoted to commissioner. Rice received her Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Alaska in 1979. She is a licensed professional engineer, and was a 2001 finalist for Alaska Engineer of the Year award.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 255 airports, 11 ferries serving 35 communities, 5,619 miles of highway and 720 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to Get Alaska Movingthrough service and infrastructure.
