Dimond 54, Eagle River 42

Dimond's Payton Lauwers and Damon Cikanek combined to go 10 for 10 from the free-throw line Wednesday, helping the Lynx earn a 54-42 Cook Inlet Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Eagle River.

Lauwers led Dimond with 13 points, and Cikanek hit for 12. A 15-4 run in the third quarter helped seal the win for the Lynx, who also got nine points apiece from Austin Torrance and Stanson Afoa.

Eagle River's Shaquan Rhoades racked a game-high 16 points and Eric Roberts notched 11.

 

Service 69, East 51

A big second quarter set Service up for a 69-51 CIC home win over East on Wednesday.

The Cougars, who received 17 points from Adam Klie and 16 from Marques Robinson, outscored East 18-7 on their way to a 14-point halftime lead. Ihro Raguindin pitched in 13 points for Service and Reece Robinson netted 12.

Jarred Laws led East with a game-high 20 points and Desmond Johnson kicked in 12.

 

West 82, Chugiak 65

Despite a 39-point performance from Chugiak's Payton Fullmer, host West led wire to wire in a CIC boys basketball game Wednesday, securing an 82-65 win with a team effort that included points from all 11 players.

Jhayde Zamora led the Eagles with 12 and Don McMorris contributed 10.

 

 

 

South 70, Bartlett 61

A pair of double-doubles by Louis Page and Jack Hobbs propelled the South boys to a 70-61 CIC basketball win over visiting Bartlett on Wednesday.

Page went off for 34 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Hobbs recorded 21 points and 11 boards in a close game the Wolverines sealed with late free throws.

Iziah Sherman Newsome deposited 14 points to lead Bartlett, with Stanley Travond racking 11 and Keeandre Rowland nailing 10.

 

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dimond 81, E. River 29

Tara Thompson and Aminata Cole each delivered more points than minutes played Wednesday night to help trigger Dimond's 81-29 victory over visiting Eagle River in a Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball game.

Thompson scored 28 points in 25 minutes of playing time and Cole added 19 points in 18 minutes. Cole also snagged 10 rebounds and teammate Sierra Afoa seized a game-high 12 rebounds. Nikki Forrey dished seven assists for the Lynx, who raced to a 27-2 lead in the first quarter and a 49-15 cushion at halftime.

Samantha Coy led the Wolves with 13 points.

 

Bartlett 57, South 43

Behind a game-high 19 points from Nadine Fraker and 16 from Kiera Stokes, Bartlett overcame a big third-quarter surge from South to win 57-43 in a CIC girls basketball game at South High on Wednesday.

South, led by 14 points from Sabrina Ungaro and 12 from Taylor Murray, overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to lead by a point in the third quarter. Foul trouble hindered the Wolverines, however, and Bartlett took control down the stretch.

 

West 62, Chugiak 53

Three players scored in double figures for the West girls basketball team Wednesday, with a big double-double from Chanel Bookert leading the Eagles to a 62-53 CIC win over visiting Chugiak.

Bookert hauled in 17 rebounds to go with 10 points, and West's Alistie Aguilar racked 15 points and five steals. Ce Ce Cockerham finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 3-0 in CIC play.

Andre Samaniego led Chugiak with 14 points.

In other CIC girls basketball action, East defeated host Service 69-17.

 

PREP BOYS HOCKEY

South 7, Service 1

Daniel Haider and Steve Orizotti each bagged two goals, and Cayden Cahill delivered a four-point performance Wednesday night to spark South's 7-1 win over Service in a boys Cook Inlet Conference hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena.

Haider also furnished an assist for South, which improved to 13-0 in conference. Cahill generated one goal and three helpers, and Tanner Congdon and Josh Smith provided the Wolverines with goals. Ben Simpson made 21 saves for South.

Karson Frisk scored Service's goal and Dustin Fritz stopped 20 shots.
