Letter: French come up lacking when it comes to human rights

Just when I think the Crusaders can't be any more hypocritical, they go and top themselves. French President Francois Hollande decried Algerian rebels' "shameful" murder of hostages in response to France's military provocation in neighboring Mali. He said: "If there was any need to justify our action against terrorism, we would have here, again, an additional argument."

Fair enough, Francois. How many arguments justify Algerian Muslims' actions against the French? Let's see …

During only two years in Algeria's war of independence — 1955-1957 — French military governors "water-boarded" tens of thousands of Algerian prisoners, pumped water into their stomachs till they ruptured, forced them to drink bleach, applied electrodes to their genitalia, beat them while suspending them from wrists or ankles, sodomized them with glass and wooden implements and burned them with cigarettes. They summarily executed prisoners in their stockades and concentration camps, sometimes merely to make room for more prisoners.

Limbaugh and his ilk like to blame the French for collaborating with the Nazis during World War II, but say little about the French imitating the Nazis.
