Letter: Stop public money for abortions

Helen Nienhueser, who brought abortion to Alaska 43 years ago, falsely claims that the Alaska Supreme Court in 2001 ordered “… nondiscriminatory public funding of abortion.” (Compass, 1/24/13) That decision specifically said the state did not have to pay for elective abortions, only medically necessary.

That requirement applies to severe medical complications, not psychological or economic reasons favored by abortion doctors in order to access state money. State bureaucrats don’t need to make a decision about pregnancy. They are charged with determining the proper payment of state funds, which does not include elective abortions.

Planned Parenthood and its stable of abortion doctors live off public money. We should all object. Let them pay for this unsavory business themselves.
