Birds and bees
In what's becoming an annual event, Savage Love author Dan Savage will speak at UAA on Thursday as part of the school's Healthy Sexuality Week. The sex advice columnist will field questions submitted from the audience, usually with a hefty dose a jokes, 7:30 p.m. at Wendy Williamson Auditorium. Tickets are $20 in advance, $5 for students. Add $5 to each for the door price, but if previous years are any indication, this will likely sell out. Visit uaatix.net for info.
Doc rock
No Evidence of Disease, aka N.E.D., is a group of doctors who started a band to raise awareness about gynecologic cancers. The doctors are from all over the country, fronted by Joanie Hope of Anchorage. The band plays Tap Root 9 p.m. Saturday ($20 advance, $25 door), and the documentary film about the group premieres 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Bear Tooth ($15) followed by another short performance.
Latin flavor
Dedicated to the classic sounds of Cuba, from bolero to danzon to mambo to rumba to Latin jazz, the Afro-Cuban All Stars ride the rhythm into Atwood Concert Hall on Saturday. The mini orchestra plays 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $26-$46. Visit centertix.net for info.
