Anchorage police officer Nelson Price was taken by ambulance to the hospital Friday morning after his cruiser collided with a Ford Expedition on O'Malley Road, according to Dani Myren, an Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman.
Price was heading west on O'Malley just after 8 a.m. with his lights and sirens on, enroute to an accident near Dowling Road and the Seward Highway
Traffic in the eastbound lane slowed to yield to the cruiser, but the driver of the Ford Expedition lost control and the Ford slid sideways into the westbound lane, and into the cruiser's path, Myren said.
The front of the cruiser collided with the side of the Expedition.
The officer suffered injuries to his arm and shoulder as well as a facial laceration, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. The occupants of the Ford suffered minor injuries and did not require an ambulance.
Royle Prince, 40, was driving the Ford. Three children were passengers.
There was "pretty extensive damage to the police cruiser," Shell said.
O'Malley was temporarily closed south of the junction with the Seward Highway between Commodore Drive and Lake Otis.
