Seward man killed in Seward Highway crash Thursday

Alaska State Troopers have identified a man killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Seward Highway on Thursday night as Douglas C. Fletcher, 44, of Seward.

Three others were injured and taken to Anchorage in ambulances, troopers report. They are Maria Kobzeva, 24, of Seward, Per Bjorn-Roli, 69, and Maria Bjorn-Roli, 61, both of Anchorage.

Fletcher was the passenger in a Subaru driven by Kobzeva.

The initial investigation found that the Subaru was heading south on the Seward Highway when the driver began to pass another southbound vehicle around Mile 105, near Indian between Anchorage and Girdwood, according to the trooper report.

The Subaru crashed into a northbound Mercedes sedan carrying the Bjorn-Rolis. Troopers got a call about the accident at 7:25 p.m. The crash caused the highway to be closed in both directions for hours.
