A 27-year-old woman died following an early morning crash Wednesday in Midtown.

The accident was reported at about 2:40 a.m. at the intersection of Northern Lights Boulevard and A Street. A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 16-year-old boy was headed west on Northern Lights when it struck the passenger side of a northbound 1991 Jeep Cherokee, according to police.

All four people in the Jeep were injured and taken to local hospitals, said police spokeswoman Dani Myren. Catherine Cope, 27, was sitting in a rear passenger seat, Myren said. She was critically injured in the accident and later died at Alaska Native Medical Center.

Police allowed the teenage driver of the Tahoe to leave with his parents, according to a department statement.

Two dogs were riding in the Jeep and escaped after the accident but were later caught by patrol officers, police said.

The accident is under investigation. Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call Detective Rick Steiding at 786-2669.

Myren said she didn't know where the vehicles were coming from or where they were headed at the time of the accident. She said Wednesday afternoon she did not know the condition of the other three people injured in the accident.
