Geographic diversity was the big winner Thursday at the Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout girls basketball tournament.
Teams from all over the state earned spots in the championship semifinals of the 16-team tournament — West Valley, Wasilla, Kodiak and Dimond.
The tournament began Wednesday with games that decided which of two brackets teams were placed in. Winners went into the Gold bracket; losers went into the Maroon bracket.
Dimond 59, Ketchikan 45
Three players scored in 11 points apiece to lift the Lynx past Ketchikan 59-45.
Aminata Cole led the way with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Karenna Liggon grabbed four steals to go with her 11 points and Tara Thompson drained three 3-pointers en route to her 11 points.
Brooke Simmons of Ketchikan led all scorers with 13 points.
West Valley 50, Soldotna 47
Caitlyn Brice racked a big double-double in West Valley’s 50-47 Gold bracket squeaker over Soldotna, putting up game-highs with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Lawjen Ashmore sparked the West Valley defense, coming up with seven of the team’s 12 steals.
Six lead changes took place. West Valley led by five after one period, trailed by four at halftime and closed with a 17-12 fourth-quarter run.
Soldotna’s Kaillee Skjold buried four 3-pointers on her way to 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Wasilla 55, Lathrop 35
Alexis Imoe’s 25 points powered Wasilla’s 55-35 romp over Lathrop, with Alysha Devine adding 18 points and Kyla Dinkel recording a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Warriors led by seven at halftime and 15 at the end of three quarters. They held Lathrop to 22.2 percent shooting and outrebounded the Malemutes 46-30.
Ruthy Hebard led Lathrop with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Erisha Talley put up 12 points.
Kodiak 39, Colony 35
Hannah Wandersee racked up 10 points and eight rebounds to spark Kodiak’s 39-30 win over Colony.
Carisa Canon added nine point and five rebounds for the Bears, who owned a 32-26 rebounding advantage.
Mary Klapperich’s 17 points and six rebounds led Colony.
In Maroon bracket action for teams that lost on the first day of play Wednesday, Chugiak, Juneau and Palmer claimed narrow wins and West used a big fourth quarter to pick up a lopsided win.
Chanel Bookert amassed 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead West, which outscored South 26-7 in the final quarter of a 70-41 victory. Taylor Murray’s 18 points and 11 rebounds powered the Wolverines.
Chugiak never led by more than eight points in a 47-45 win over Bartlett. Andre Samaniego led all scorers with 15 points and Brandy Bookout added 14 for Chugiak, and Nadine Fraker netted 14 for Bartlett.
Juneau overcame a 30-point, 12-rebound performance from East’s Taria Page for a 53-50 win. Kimberlee Kelly tossed in 15 for Juneau, Kaitlin Fagerstrom added 14 and Gabi Fenumiai scored 10.
Palmer beat Kenai 39-30, holding Kenai to two points in the second quarter to take command. Kourtney Straight hit 6 of 7 shots to lead Palmer with 15 points; Sydney Taylor’s 12 points paced Kenai.
