Team Tie -- aka UAA Seawolves -- fittingly is tied with Clarkson for the national lead in ties with seven as it enters a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at Michigan Tech in Houghton this weekend.
However unsatisfying a tie can be, though, six of UAA' s seven ties have come on game- tying goals inside the last five minutes of regulation, so most of those ties have furnished late-game entertainment.
All four times UAA scored the last goal in a tie -- and the Seawolves have scored last in their four most recent ties -- its strike to force overtime came in the last five minutes of the third period. And last weekend, the Seawolves forged a pair of ties with visiting Colorado College by scoring with less than four minutes left in regulation one night, then scoring an extra-attacker goal the next night with 73 seconds left in regulation.
Not that opponents haven't furnished some thrills. Air Force tied UAA on an extra- attacker goal with .2 seconds left and North Dakota scored a game-tying, extra-attacker goal with 68 seconds left.
Worth noting as the Seawolves prepare to play at Michigan Tech: Two of the five times in UAA history that the Seawolves have tied both games of a series, the opponent was Michigan Tech.
Also worth noting: UAA, riding a 14-game winless streak (0-11-3), is 0-8-2 this season in WCHA road games.

Knotted up in the net
UAA junior goaltender Rob Gunderson (1-7-4) already has racked four ties this season, which ties him with five other Seawolves goalies who logged four ties in a season -- that includes Doug Teskey, who twice had four-tie seasons. But the standard is Jon Olthuis, who was in net for all eight of the team's club-record eight ties in 2007-08. Here are the three highest single-season tie totals for UAA masked men in its history:
Goaltender Record Season
Jon Olthuis 6-17-8 2007-08
Gregg Naumenko 11-13-5 1998-99
Chris King 7-20-5 2000-01
Through 26 games, UAA has played to a tie seven times, or 27 percent of the time. Those seven ties are one shy of the team single-season record. Here are the four season with the most ties in Seawolves history:
Ties Regular-season games season
8 34 2007-08
7 26 Current
7 34 2002-03
6 34 2004-05
