My first taste of negroamaro was truly a wine epiphany. Since that time, the wines of Puglia (heel of the boot in Italy) have traveled the globe. The Antinori wine family has a new project there called Tormaresca, and they make a wine called Neprica. It's 40 percent negroamaro, 30 percent primitivo and 30 percent cabernet sauvignon. The nose is black fruits with a tar and dried herb addition from the negroamaro. The mouth is charming with gushing black fruits and soft tannins that are nicely coating. A crowd-pleaser to be sure! Costs about $12.
