Chelimo honored

UAA runner Micah Chelimo was named national athlete of the week by the Division II Men's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, after his three victories in last weekend's Great Northwest Athletic Conference indoor championships.

The UAA women's track and field team, fresh off winning the GNAC indoor championships team competition, were named the conference's team of the week. The UAA women, making their debut in the indoor tournament, ended Seattle Pacific's nine-year run champions.

Chelimo helped the men's team to a second-place finish, picking up wins in the mile, 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter races. The senior from Kenya owns the season's best Division II 5,000 time at 13:51.19, a mark he set at the University of Washington Husky Classic earlier this month.
